RISE and Rebuild Projects

Village of Waterford Fire House

The Village of Waterford was in desperate need of a new fire house where they could consolidate all three of their existing fire houses, all of which were located in flood zones.  A suitable location was found, but it was a designated park.  Our team members facilitated obtained permission to move the park through a Parkland Alienation process through the NY SHPO.

Yonkers Flood Damage Reduction Project Project

This was an initiative aimed at reducing flood risk in the City of Yonkers, New York, particularly in areas prone to severe flooding. Funded by the Governor's Office of Storm Recovery (GOSR), the project focuses on enhancing flood resilience through a combination of infrastructure improvements, such as the construction of stormwater management systems, floodwalls, and green infrastructure. The goal is to protect vulnerable communities, improve drainage systems, and mitigate the impacts of future storms and heavy rainfall, ultimately enhancing public safety and quality of life for residents.

We're excited to share that, through collaboration with village leaders and various stakeholders, we've successfully secured funding to support 15 small businesses. This initiative will not only help these businesses launch but also revitalize the Main Street corridor, bringing new energy to a previously dormant retail area. Together, we’re committed to fostering growth and enhancing the community’s vibrancy.

NYC Green Infrastructure

One of the most innovative projects to come from Superstorm Sandy recovery was the NYC Green Infrastructure project.  Steve Kirk was the Senior Grant Manager for that project and was able to coordinate multiple State and City stakeholders to complete design and implement the construction.  This initiative focused on implementing green infrastructure solutions, such as permeable pavements, green roofs, and bioswales, to manage stormwater naturally and reduce the burden on the city's drainage systems. By integrating sustainable practices into urban planning, the project seeks to improve water quality, enhance public spaces, and promote community well-being while addressing the impacts of extreme weather events.
